Rosie Sowles has been with the Post Rock staff for 8 years, working primarily with Dr. Jen Brull. Rosie says that the best part of working at Post Rock is the atmosphere. “We are one big family. We care about our patients and providing them with the best care,” added Rosie.

When she was younger, Rosie was phobic of doctors, needles, and hospitals and didn’t think health care was the career path for her. Nursing just kind of found her. Rosie began her career in health care working in a lab, as a nurse’s aide, and as a medical assistant. In this work she found that she really loved taking care of people and that she was doing much of the same type of work as the nurses around her were doing. She chose to become a Registered Nurse. Rosie graduated from North Kansas Technical College as an RN in 2009.

Rosie was raised in Plainville and married her high school sweetheart in 1996 with whom she has 3 children: David, Conner, and Alyssa. When she’s not at work, Rosie loves to read, fish, and spend quality time with family.

Rosie holds foot clinic every Tuesday. Patients have their feet soaked, nails trimmed, lotions applied, and diabetic foot exams performed. Rosie loves offering this service to her patients, even offering to polish some women’s toenails. If you have any medical foot care needs, contact Post Rock to make your appointment today.

PRFM is working to improve patient care through the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) initiative. PCMH is a patient-centered model designed for patients to receive the right care at the right time, lowering health care costs and improving the health care consumer’s overall health across the health care system.

We are working on updating policies, providing more same-day appointments for patients, and evaluating ourselves and the care we offer. This initiative is something the entire staff is proud to be working on! Now we’re looking for feedback from you, our patients.

Post Rock is offering a quick survey to patients regarding the quality of care they have received with us. The survey takes about 5 minutes and gives an opportunity for patients to point out things they liked in a visit or things that they wish we would improve on. We hope to gather feedback that we can use to push our practices to serve you better! Please call us to share your email address with one of our front desk staff so we can send you the survey link and get your feedback. You can reach us at 785-434-2622 during business hours.

We also offer Patient Portal, a secure web site to access your medical record. You can email the clinic staff, review your medical history, request medication refills and view lab results among other functions. Be assured that no personal health information is ever sent through regular email. To sign up for Patient Portal, stop by one of our clinics and speak with a front desk staff member.

Post Rock Family Medicine is happy to welcome Allie Lohrmeyer for a rotation. Allie will be working primarily with Dr. Brull in her clinic and in Doctors Without Delay until May 18. She was happy to share some background information with the community:

Where are you from?

Not far from Plainville! I’m from the beautiful town of Oberlin, “where friends meet on brick streets!”

Why did you come to Plainville?

I came to work with my family doc idol, Dr. Brull. We met through a program called “Faces in Family Medicine” and she has mentored me throughout my medical school career. I’m very excited to get to learn from her!

What do you hope to be when you’re out of school? Why?

A rural family physician. I’ve known since I was little that I wanted to be a doctor, even though my mom, who’s a nurse, told me to be anything BUT a doctor! We’ve also had health issues in my family that introduced me to the world of medicine and how it can help make lives better. I love talking with and getting to know patients, probably because of my upbringing. In a small town, it’s all about relationships. I also like the ability to make a real difference in someone’s quality of life by helping them be healthier. Family medicine is a perfect fit!

What do you like about spending a rotation in Plainville?

This will be a time that I will get important real-world experience, since I aim to work in a community like Plainville and want to know how the medical community thrives here.

What do you like to do outside of medicine?

I love just spending time with friends and family. I like camping with my mom and doing chores on the farm with my dad. In my down time, I follow several TV shows and pop culture.

What do you hope to learn on your rotation in Plainville?

I understand many people in Plainville have a German heritage, and I like to learn new dishes, so I hope someone can show me how to cook a popular German food while I’m here!

Last week Dr. Fisher spoke on obesity and the health related risks associated with obesity on Doctors On Call. This followed Dr. Oller and Dr. Loney’s presentation on diabetes the week before. These videos are available on SmokyHillsTV.org. Click here to view past Doctors On Call videos.

All the Post Rock providers believe that it is important for individuals to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Regardless of whether you are overweight or obese, it is a good idea to maintain a healthy diet and incorporate exercise into your lifestyle.

Dr. Fisher does an excellent job in his Doctors On Call interview of outlining just what a healthy, portion controlled diet should look like. He points individuals to look at MyPlate, a Food and Nutrition Service program created by the US Department of Agriculture.

Exercise is important, even if it comes only in small doses. Dr. Mike Evans outlines in his 23 and a half hours program the shockingly strong benefits that even a small exercise program can have on your health.

Before making drastic changes, it is a good idea to have a visit with your primary care provider to assess any possible risk associated with weight loss. Call Post Rock today to schedule an appointment.
